Ash and I seem to go through phases with clubs, and they usually tend to revolve around a couple of factors:
1.) Location
2.) Price (Is there a cover? How expensive are the drinks?)
3.) Service (Is it stuffy? Are there so many people there that we just get lost? What’s the staff like?)

Rick’s became our place for quite a while. It was easy to get to, there was no cover, and they had a $5 drink special for locals, and we almost always had a good experience.

But last week, I got some bad news from a friend: Rick’s closed. I was shocked. I really couldn’t wrap my mind around it. We had visited it recently, and it was packed and seemed to be doing well, but apparently that wasn’t the case. And it closed.

Guess I can get rid of this ... Kinda sad.

So, for nostalgia’s sake, here are some my posts about some of sexy times at Rick’s:

Over the past year, I have met quite a few adult performers, and I have talked to them about how and why they got into the industry. I’ve asked about their dos and don’ts, and about the type of scenes they perform. But in all the conversations about the industry, I never really had a full grasp on what the job of an adult actor or actress entailed.

I knew enough to know that it’s not your typical 9 to 5 job. Hours are sporadic, jobs are probably sporadic. And on the female performers’ end, I would think there is a lot of preparation that goes into their job. That leaves out the whole ‘fucking on film’ part, and all those other details that comprise the actual job of an adult entertainer.

I think that even though everyone knows there is an adult industry, most people assume that it’s not really a profession. It’s just there to get people off. It’s not like the film or theatre industries where viewers discuss the sound, the lighting, the cinematography, the producer, director, etc. Porn is just porn. And honestly that’s some of the beauty of it – the fact that you’re not thinking but simply gaining so much pleasure out of it is a big part of the appeal of porn. But I wanted to see what it was like behind-th-scenes. I wanted to see what the job was really like when one is an adult performer, director, etc.

When I was making these plans, some of my friends had questioned, “Don’t you think this is going to ruin porn for you.” And to be honest, I knew this was a legitimate question. It was a question that was lurking in the back of my mind. I’ll admit that there was a time in my life – not too long ago – that I thought the adult industry was chock-full of perverts. Everyone on set, regardless of their role on or off camera, was getting sexually pleasured. I figured it was all just a big fuck fest but only half of it was caught on camera and paid for. I didn’t think it was legitimate.

But as I continued to meet, see and cover more and more people in this industry, I knew this theory just couldn’t hold up. I had met too many people in the adult industry that took their careers just as seriously, if not more seriously, as I take my career.

So I figured the only way I could know for sure what this aspect of the industry was like, was to go on set and experience and see it for myself…

Austin, Texas came in first, with six other Texas cities also placing in the top 15.

Maybe Austin is the sexiest city.

The poll done by Men’s Health Magazine looked at birth rates, condom sales, rate of sexually transmitted diseases and sales of sex toys.

Portland, Maine finished in last place. Yonkers, New York; Charleston, West Virginia; and Manchester, New Hampshire were also at the bottom of the list.

Although I was a little shocked that Vegas didn’t score a little higher, after seeing the criteria, I think it might be a compliment to score low. I mean if your interested in a sexy, semi-promiscuous lifestlye, besides sex toy and condom sales, who wants to live in a city that has a high birth and sexually transmitted disease rate.

I don’t know what the other criteria were. But according to those, I think I’ll take number 70. Thank you very much!

The news is a little bittersweet. On one hand, it didn’t come as much of a surprise. Ash and I had already written off the club due to some shady business practices, and apparently, closing down the club was no different. From what we heard, employees showed up for their shift, and the doors were locked. They received no notice. They got no explanation; no apology; no appreciation for the service they provided.

But on the other hand, The Velvet Lion, holds a special place in our hearts. It was the backdrop and setting to many sexy fun nights. We met great people there, some that gave us exceptional customer service, and some that became our friends and are close to us today.

I am happy to know that most of the people we became friends with were already done with The Lion when it closed its doors. They have other jobs, are working on other projects, etc. Unfortunately, this is not the case with everyone there.

But as most strip clubs go, this one will sit for a bit and will re-open as something else. Case in point, before The Velvet Lion, the club was called Eden, but it closed for a bit, reconcepted and reopened as The Velvet Lion.

And thanks to a little scoop from an old old friend, we’ve learned that the next venture for the location is going to be a gay club. I’m not sure of the details yet – maybe a gay bar and dance club; maybe a gay strip club … We haven’t heard yet, but you can be sure that as soon as we hear, we’ll give you the scoop. Who knows, maybe we’ll even head back there – just to make a couple more memories.

Here’s the statement according to Entertainment Daily:

Jesse James’ mistress Michelle McGee to dance topless at Las Vegas club

NEW YORK – The mistress of Sandra Bullock’s husband Jesse James is reportedly cashing in on her notoriety with a topless appearance at the Deja Vu Showgirls club in Las Vegas.

According to People magazine, Michelle McGee is set to sign autographs, pose for pictures, and dance topless at the club on Friday.

“We’re just cashing in on her celebrity right now,” the New York Daily News quoted Larry Beard, the club’s advertising and marketing director, as telling the mag.

McGee will be paid 5,000 dollars for the gig, plus tips.

Beard said he is expecting big crowds.

“There’s actually a group of tattoo enthusiasts that are all going to show up. She’s a dancer. This is right down her alley,” he said.

And Beard is unfazed by the outrage over McGee’s fling with James.

“Good publicity, bad publicity, it’s all publicity to me. I mean, I don’t expect Sandra Bullock to show up,” he added.

Although I’m not a fan, it would seem a little silly not to at least show up and see how these shenanagins play out. I’ll keep you posted for sure.

It’s no secret that tourism is down in Las Vegas. Recently our Mayor, Oscar Goodman was pissed over remarks President Obama made about being smart with your money and not blowing, “a bunch of cash on Vegas when you’re trying to save for college.” And I would say most Las Vegans are rightfully pissed along with Mayor Goodman. Tourism is this city’s main source of money. Hell, we don’t pay a state income tax at the end of the year because the hotels entertainment and gambling taxes make up for it. So when times get tough around Las Vegas, businesses get desperate. Cirque Du Soleil shows are now offering buy one get the second for $25 for locals. Other shows are offering buy one get one free deals. Some night clubs stopped charging locals cover charges just to get more people in to buy drinks. And some strip clubs are now offering as much as $120 to a cab driver for every person they bring to their establishment.

Let me repeat that… $120 to a cab driver per person! This payoff technique isn’t new to Vegas. In fact its been going on for quite a while. Usually the deal is, if you show up in your own car their is no cover charge, but if you show up in a cab or limo there is any where from a $15 to $30  fee even if you’re a local. The club doesn’t keep this money they just walk it right back out to the cab driver. The club then hopes to make the money back by the drinks the patron then buys while they are there.

If taxi drivers looked like this there would be no need to go to the strip club!

About a year ago, our favorite strip club (at the time) decided they would be a rebel. In the face of the recession Seamless decided to stop charging a cover charge and stop paying the cab drivers in hopes that it would bring them more business. Our favorite waitress there was telling us that the owners had said if all the clubs did this everyone would stand to benefit. But sadly it didn’t happen. Seamless went under and is now the Deja Vu Ultra Lounge.  In fact now a few clubs have done the opposite. They have jacked the prices of EVERYTHING up at their clubs. We recently found this out the hard way at Sapphire’s. They were charging near 15 bucks a damn drink! After a tip that’s near 35 bucks for 2 people. Who the fuck can pay that and still afford some boobies in their face?!

Rick Belcastro - Owner of Badda Bing

Many strip club owners who are paying the cabbies are trying as hard as they can to remain anonymous and keep their mugs out of the news. But one owner who is on the other end of the cab wars, Rick Belcastro has made his voice heard. He told us to check out his youtube video he made about the situation. Its quite funny.

Well, we Bull Shatted (thats right I said Bull Shatted) a little with the owner of Badda Bing, Rick the other night at Karaoke XXX. He is quite the character and the name of his club completely fits his attitude. He told us he was one of the only people to show up to a recent hearing on the situation. He also told us that he’s giving free rides to anyone that wants to go to his club!

So why should you care about any of this? If all the other strip clubs go out of business then what is stopping places like Sapphire’s from charging 18 or 20 bucks a drink and 50 dollars a cover charge. Competition is good in a free market. Monopolies only hurt the consumers. And besides, seeing boobies while drinkin’ shouldn’t be an expensive activity damn it!

This week all the articles covering AEE are running rampant. There are stories covering everything from the toys, the girls, the girls’ boyfriends/husbands. Some of the stories are purely print entertainment, while others are depressing stories of girls that want out of the industry. All of it is interesting and has kept me in front of the computer screen for hours reading everything that comes up on Google.

But one article, published in the Las Vegas Weekly, was particularly interesting. Titled “Not who you think:  That’s the conclusion of a new study about Adult Expo attendees, Abigail Goldman details the results of a survey done by UNLV sociologists who have been studying and surveying the adult-convention visitors for the past two years. The results were released late December and are both surprising and not so surprising all at the same time.
